JOB SUMMARY

Dozer Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Dozer. The Dozer Operator levels and scoops soil, and controls the direction and angle of the equipment to move rocks and debris

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Operation

• Operates tractor equipped with concave blade attached across front to gouge out, level, and distribute earth and to push trees and rocks from land preparatory to constructing roads and buildings or planting crops, or in mining, quarrying, and lumbering operations: Fastens attachments to tractor with clevis or wedge-pin hitches.
• Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
• Moves levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.
• Moves levers and depresses pedals to maneuver tractor and raise, lower, and tilt attachment to clear right-of-way.
• Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut.
• Drives bulldozer in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
• Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on tractor, using grease gun, oilcans, and hand tools.
• When required to work to close tolerances, may be designated Fine-Grade-Bulldozer Operator.
• When operating bulldozer to loosen soil, may be designated Scarifier Operator.
• May be designated according to type of tractor operated as Crawler-Tractor Operator; Forest Fire Equipment Operator; or attachment added as Angledozer Operator.
• May operate bulldozer to scrape surface clay to determine existence and types of clay deposits or to gather clay into piles preparatory to removal to brick-and-tile manufacturing plant and be designated Scraper Operator.

Vehicle Maintenance

•Before leaving in the morning, to ensure that the vehicle is fully operational by checking brakes, tyres, licence is updated etc.

•To do routine inspection for visible defects around the exterior of the vehicles

•Ensure the regular and preventative maintenance procedures are carried out to prevent breakdowns and time lost

•Ensure the vehicle is kept clean always

Teamwork

• Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
• Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
• Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Std 8/Grade 10/Junior Certificate of Education
• Driver’s License Code EC with valid PDP / Operator Experience in operating Heavy Equipment
• Specialised training with cited machinery,
• Certification in operating the machine
• Operator Experience for low bed, Fuel Tanker, Excavator, Front End Loader, Bulldozer, TLB, Grader, Truck Mounted Crane and Tractor
• Minimum 5 plus years’ experience within the construction industry
• 5 plus years’ experience operating a Bulldozer machine is required
• The successful completion of a medical evaluation
• Knowledge of Concrete Mixer and other heavy equipment.
• Knowledge water infrastructure construction, Bulk water construction processes and industry requirements. Understanding of computerized controls and electronics
• Experience with WTP, Water Retaining structures, Pumpstations, Reservoirs and Pipeline.
• Salary: To be negotiated
