Crane Operator
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for operating a stationary or traveling crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. Depresses buttons, lifts levers, and ensures load is safely attached to crane before bringing it down.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate crane under general supervision.
- Manipulate or depress cane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
- Repair crane as needed.
- Inspect crane for safety issues daily.
- Determine if any parts are malfunctioning.
- Complete job tickets, service quality summaries, and all other necessary paperwork.
- Lift, position and place machinery, equipment or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities.
- Drive trucks to worksites and unload trucks.
- Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads.
- Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and to raise and lower load-line.
- Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify boom for pile driving or high lifting.
- Work with in precise limits and standards of accuracy.
- Operate crane according to signals from helper.
- Start and stop crane engine.
- Follow directions carefully
- Report serious mechanical problems and body damages to supervisor
- To remain with the vehicle in the event of any goods on the vehicle until assistance from the Company arrives
- Before leaving in the morning, to ensure that the vehicle is fully operational by checking brakes, tyres, licence is updated etc.
- To do routine inspection for visible defects around the exterior of the vehicles
- Ensure the regular and preventative maintenance procedures are carried out to prevent breakdowns and time lost
- Ensure the vehicle is kept clean always
- Park machine as required, to ensure safekeeping of machine and timeous commencement of next shift.
- Adhere to Road Safety rules to prevent accidents and damages
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections.
- Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
- Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Std 8/Grade 10/Level2 Certification in Plant/Crane operations.
- Driver’s License Code EC with valid PDP / Operator Experience for low bed, Fuel Tanker, Excavator, Front End Loader, Bulldozer, TLB, Grader, Truck Mounted Crane and Tractor
- Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience operating crane in a construction industry
- 2 to 3 years’ experience operating an Mobile Crane is required
- The successful completion of a medical evaluation
- Knowledge of Mobile Crane and other heavy equipment.
- Knowledge road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements. Understanding of computerized controls and electronics
- Specialized training with said machinery,
- Certification in operating said machine
- Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
