Statement on death of 6 year old boy in a trench on our Giyani Site
Khato Civils has learnt with great shock about the death of a 6 year old, Nsuku Mhlongo, of Homu 14B in Giyani whose demise was as a result of falling into one of the manhole chambers left incomplete after engineering works on the Giyani Bulk Water Project.
From the minute we were made aware of the situation, we dispatched our team to investigate what happened, with the help of the affected community.
Our team is also working round the clock in conjunction with Mopani District Municipality to find out what happened and prevent a recurrence of the similar incident in future.
We are equally inquiring to find out the truth because we pulled out of site in September 2018 due to nonpayment by the employer. Therefore, for four months to-date, there has been no activities on site and no maintenance and safe guarding of the pipe lines.
The death of the child is tragic and regrettable.
In the meantime, our paramount concern is that we mourn with the affected family and offer our fullest support.
Khato Civils will be readily available and will fully cooperate with the authorities in investigating circumstances that led to this regrettable tragic event.
We once again offer our deepest condolences to the Mhlongo family for this untimely loss of their son and we will provide all the necessary support to the family.
